I just finished all 12 episodes of One Punch Man. You can watch it for free at MyAnimeList. Here is the link: http://myanimelist.net/anime/30276/One_Punch_Man
I had heard about this anime a long time ago, but didn't get around to it until now. It features a superhero named Saitama who is indestructable and so strong that he can vanquish most villains in just one punch. He has a small ego, and is otherwise just a regular guy, He doesn't pay much attention to the world. He is oblivious to the social setting he is in. He doesn't know that he is special, and thinks that he gained these abilities because of exercise training.
He shows no emotion when he fights, sometimes just standing still with a blank stare while bad guys pummel him with no effect. He got hit so hard that he was sent all the way to the moon. He held his nose so the air wouldn't come out of his lungs, and then jumped with such force he came all the way back to earth. This was a delightful pun the Old Honeymooners TV show where Ralph Kramdem would threaten his wife with abuse in most episodes with the tag line: One of these days, Alice, Bang! Zoom! to the Moon.
He started out in the story line as an unemployed 22 year old Japanese male named Saitama. He encountered a large person whose top half of his body was a lobster. The Lobster Man was only wearing underwear, just a set of briefs. The Lobster Man was angry because a small boy had drawn nipples on his breast with an indelible ink marker. Kids are still learning, and he probably didn't know that not all sentient beings had nipples, so he corrected the Lobster Man's anatomy by supplying some.
Then Saitama finds the boy who did it who is just playing on a toy bouncing horse, and tells him to run away. It is too late, though, because the Lobster Man also finds the boy and attempts to kill him. This is the style of this anime, really over-reacting in the extreme. Saitama gets between them, and is sent crashing into a public bathroom. He bounces back quickly and hits the Lobster man in the face, causing his head to explode. This is when Saitama decides to become a superhero. He trains so hard his hair fell out. He gets upset if you draw attention to his baldness. I think the creators made him bald for convenience in animating the character.
He trains for 3 years to get in perfect shape, and doesn't even remember that he had superpowers before he began the training.
In the second episode, he gets a sidekick/disciple named Genos, who is a cyborg having a human head as his only organic part. Genos is very logical, very intelligent and powerful, but not as strong Saitama. He is needed in the story for 2 reasons. He is a source of critical information for Saitama because Saitama can't learn these things without help, even simple things. He also has powers that will help Saitama get close enough to villains so that he can punch them.
Saitama's fight's are so quick, and usually they are done in places where no one can see them. As a result, he is completely unknown even though he has killed hundreds of towering villains.
One thing that is unexplained is that how Saitama's costume is never harmed in any of his fights. He wears a yellow body suit with red gloves and boots, and a white cape. He could not have picked more lame colors. He doesn't even give him self a superhero nickname. One Punch Man is the title of the anime, but no one ever calls Saitama that name.
There are many other superheroes in this anime, and most of them have mental issues. One of my favorites is Puri-Puri-Prisoner. He is a Huge Male Homosexual. He wears drag queen makeup. When he transforms into his superhuman form, all his clothes come off (in reminiscence of Heman), and he sprouts energy in the form of wings, to become an angel. Another favorite is Tornado, who has awesome psychic abilities, but a terrible narcissistic personality. She is a short cute female with a green dress and green highlights in her hair. She never stops complaining.
This anime has replaced FLCL as my favorite anime. FLCL replaced Cowboy Bebop as my first favorite anime.
